CARLSBAD, Calif., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- TV actress Sara Rue, who has long worked to lose weight, has lost 50 pounds through Jenny Craig, the U.S. weight-management company said Wednesday.

Rue is best known for her roles on "Popular," "Less Than Perfect" and "Eastwick."

The actress is to debut her weight-loss transformation in a national ad campaign for Jenny Craig. She will also serve as host of a new weight-loss reality show on the CW network in 2011.

Jenny Craig said Rue joined the program in December 2009 with an initial weight-loss goal of 30 pounds. After achieving that goal in March 2010 and feeling inspired by her personal success, Rue decided to go for 40 pounds, which she achieved in May. At that point, she focused on shaping up for the summer by starting a conditioning program two to three days a week. In July 2010, Rue reached her ultimate goal of 50 pounds lost.

"I was tired of being on this roller coaster, watching the scale go up and down all the time. I didn't want my weight to define me anymore," Rue said in a statement. "I finally feel comfortable in my own skin thanks to Jenny Craig. They gave me a plan that I could stick to and a personal consultant that gave me that much needed guidance and support I was looking for. I was never alone. If I can do this, anyone can."
