LOS ANGELES, July 14 (UPI) -- U.S. television personality Mario Lopez is to star in a new reality series about his transition from bachelorhood to fatherhood, VH1 said Wednesday.

Lopez's girlfriend, Courtney Mazza, is pregnant with their first child.

Their series, as yet untitled, is expected to feature eight half-hour episodes and is set to premiere this fall.

Lopez is best known for his work on the long-running sitcom "Saved by the Bell" and as host of the entertainment news program "Extra."

"Our audience has grown up with Mario. They have watched him go from a kid in a fictional high school to a man who has succeeded in many different facets in the TV business. We're thrilled that we get to be a part of his next transition into fatherhood," Jeff Olde, executive vice president of original programming and production, said in a statement. "This new series fits perfectly with VH1's programming because Mario's upcoming life changes reflect the same family milestones that many of our viewers are experiencing for the first time."
