LOS ANGELES, July 1 (UPI) -- U.S. reality television personality Dean McDermott was hospitalized with a punctured and collapsed lung following a dirt-bike riding accident, his wife said.
People.com said Thursday the 43-year-old father of two young children was being treated in the intensive care unit of a Los Angeles-area hospital. Although a full recovery is anticipated, he was expected to stay in the ICU for a few more days, the report said.
"He's in a lot of pain," McDermott's wife, Tori Spelling, told the Web site. "He's taking this as a sign and realizing family is too important to risk his life."
McDermott fractured his shoulder in a motorcycle accident this year.
"At first I was mad. I was pissed that he was out biking and crashed. But when I showed up and saw him lying there, and they told me they were admitting him to ICU with a collapsed lung, my heart dropped. My biggest fear had come true," Spelling told People.com.
"When I first saw him he just softly said, 'I'm so sorry.' I just held his hand and cried. That's when he said: 'I'll never do this again. You and the kids mean everything to me.'"
The couple star on TV's "Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hywood."
