LOS ANGELES, June 25 (UPI) -- British actor Jonny Lee Miller has joined the cast of the drama series "Dexter," Showtime said.

Miller, who will appear in six episodes of the upcoming fifth season, will play a mysterious man who is intricately involved in the storyline with "Dexter" newcomer Julia Stiles's character that will also bring him into Dexter's universe, the cable network said.

Production on Season 5 has begun and will premiere this fall on Showtime.

Miller most recently starred in ABC's "Eli Stone." His film credits include "Hackers," "Melinda and Melinda," "Trainspotting" and "Endgame."

"Dexter" stars Michael C. Hall as a "complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department who moonlights as a serial killer."
