ANAHEIM, Calif., June 16 (UPI) -- Reality television personality Jillian Michaels has agreed to serve as host of a 5K run benefiting U.S. cancer charities, organizers said.
Michaels is known for starring in "The Biggest Loser" and "Losing It with Jillian."
She is showing her support for cancer research and education by joining Major League Baseball and Angels Hall of Famer Bobby Grich at the All-Star Game Charity 5K & Fun Run presented by Sports Authority and Nike, which is to take place July 11 in Anaheim, Calif.
Michaels will encourage, hand out medals to and congratulate participants as they cross the finish line, organizers said.
The event is to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Stand Up to Cancer, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and City of Hope, with Major League Baseball donating 100 percent of registration fees to the organizations.
"Cancer is a horrible disease that has touched my life -- all of our lives -- far too many times," Michaels said in a statement Wednesday. "I am honored to be a part of the Stand Up to Cancer fight to eradicate this devastating illness. I encourage everyone to come out and be part of the action -- it's a great chance to do something fun, and healthy, for a truly vital cause."
Participants in the All-Star Game Charity 5K & Fun Run will run and walk on a baseball-themed course featuring appearances by MLB icons, mascots and celebrity guests. The course will begin outside of Angel Stadium, Major League Baseball said in a news release.
