SALT LAKE CITY, June 4 (UPI) -- Disagreements between Gary Coleman's parents and his ex-wife have caused the postponement of the U.S. actor's funeral, The Salt Lake Tribune said Friday.

The 42-year-old former "Diff'rent Strokes" star died last week after suffering a brain hemorrhage. His ex-wife, Shannon Price, was expecting to have his funeral this weekend in Utah where they had a home.

Although his parents were estranged from the actor at the time of his death, W.G. "Willie" and Edmonia Sue Coleman are now seeking custody of his remains and trying to secure permission to plan his funeral, attorney Frederick A. Jackman said in a statement issued to the Tribune.

"The Colemans don't want to fight with anyone. They just want to bring their son home. Mr. and Mrs. Coleman are Gary Coleman's surviving family. They're hoping that by applying for Formal Probate, they can get through this process the right way," the statement said. "The status of the divorce, whether or not anyone has a will, these are all issues that should be brought to the family's attention immediately. Formal Probate is the way we make sure it all gets handled properly."
