WASHINGTON, May 21 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Valerie Bertinelli says turning 50 last month didn't bother her at all.

"I've never been a big age person. I've got the lines. I'm aging. But so what? Now is the best time of my life. ... I hope it just gets better, because this is really fun," Bertinelli told AARP The Magazine.

"Women of this age are not dead. We're part of baby boomers. We're big, man," she added. "You know what's so great about being this age? We're smarter. And we're not too old to grow."

The former star of TV's "One Day at a Time" and recent Jenny Craig weight-loss spokeswoman will soon be seen on the new sitcom "Hot in Cleveland." She is the mother of an adult son with her ex-husband, rocker Eddie Van Halen.
