Regis to host Daytime Emmys show

LAS VEGAS, May 17 (UPI) -- Regis Philbin is to serve as host of next month's 37th annual Daytime Emmy Awards show in Las Vegas, CBS announced Monday.

The ceremony honoring the best of the 2009-10 daytime television season is to air live on the network from the Las Vegas Hilton June 27.

"I am delighted to host the Daytime Emmys this year," Philbin said in a statement. "It's going to be a great night with my daytime brothers and sisters, and I hope everyone wins an award this year."

"Regis Philbin is a TV icon," said David McKenzie, executive producer of the telecast. "As a consummate entertainer, he is the perfect host to capture the energy and excitement of the inaugural Las Vegas-based Daytime Emmys."

"We are ecstatic to have Regis Philbin as the host of the Daytime Emmy Awards," said Herb Granath, chairman of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. "We were honored to award him the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. His continual excellence in the broadcast television medium is a true inspiration to all of us in the industry."

Philbin is the co-host of the long-running morning chat "Live! with Regis and Kelly."
