LOS ANGELES, May 5 (UPI) -- James Gandolfini is producing and may star in a U.S. adaptation of the French-Canadian television series "Taxi 22" for HBO, Variety reported Wednesday.

Gandolfini previously headlined the premium cable network's wildly popular mob drama "The Sopranos."

Variety said the actor is one of the executive producers on the new version of "Taxi 22," a half-hour series about a politically incorrect New York cab driver. The show is being developed as a possible starring vehicle for Gandolfini, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.
