LOS ANGELES, April 12 (UPI) -- "Goddess" was the word U.S. actress Annie Potts used to describe her "Designing Women" co-star Dixie Carter, who died after a battle with endometrial cancer.

Carter died Saturday at age 70.

"Dixie Carter was a goddess," Potts said in a statement to People.com Monday. "The kind of wife and mother that every mother hopes their daughter will become and the kind of friend that is absolutely irreplaceable. She loved fiercely and was adored in return. ... To have known her a little was a delight to all. To have known her well, a treasure beyond reckoning. And now, a loss beyond measure."

Potts and Carter starred on the sitcom together from 1986 to 1993.
