Death of producer's wife investigated

LOS ANGELES, April 9 (UPI) -- Bruce Beresford-Redman, a U.S. television producer detained and questioned in Mexico about the death of his wife, was not charged, officials said.

Beresford-Redman, who has worked on the reality shows "Survivor" and "Pimp My Ride," reported his wife missing Tuesday after the mother of two did not return from shopping to the hotel where their family was staying.

The 42-year-old woman's body was discovered in a Cancun sewer Thursday and Beresford-Redman was detained for questioning, officials said.

The Los Angeles Times said the 38-year-old producer was released from police custody and has not been charged with a crime, although he remains under investigation.

Quintana Roo state investigator Veronica Acacio told the newspaper Beresford-Redman is required to stay in Mexico until the case is closed.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the official cause of the woman's death. State prosecutors said her body showed signs of possible strangulation, the Times reported.
