VENICE, Calif., April 7 (UPI) -- Nicholas Brendon has been charged with battery against a police officer and vandalism following his arrest last month in Venice, Calif., officials said.

Brendon, 38, is best known for portraying sidekick Xander on TV's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" for seven seasons, ending in 2003. He now has a recurring role on "Criminal Minds."

The actor reportedly was arrested March 17 after police received a complaint about a drunk and disorderly man.

TMZ quoted unnamed police sources as saying Brendon tried to assault officers who responded to the call, then ran until he was subdued by police with a taser.

He was subsequently charged with four misdemeanors -- one count of resisting arrest, two counts of battery against a police officer and one count of vandalism, the entertainment news Web site said.
