Publicist Harlan Boll told The New York Times Forsythe, who was suffering from colon cancer, died Thursday.

Born John Lincoln Freund in Penns Grove, N.J., the actor is best known for his roles on TV's "Bachelor Father," "Charlie's Angels" and "Dynasty." He also starred in "The John Forsythe Show," "To Rome With Love" and "The Powers That Be."

His film credits include "Destination Tokyo," "The Trouble With Harry," "Kitten With a Whip," "Madame X," "In Cold Blood" and "Scrooged."

The Times said Forsythe was divorced from Parker McCormick, with whom he had a son. He later married Julie Warren. They had two daughters together and were married for more than 50 years until her death in 1994.

He reportedly is survived by Nicole Carter, the third wife he married in 2002, as well as his three children.

Forsythe's "Charlie's Angels" co-star Kate Jackson told People.com Friday: "(Forsythe) had a grace about him that was incredibly awesome.... John had a great sense of humor, and he was wonderful."

"(He was the) last of the true gentlemen of the acting profession," his "Dynasty" co-star Joan Collins said in a statement. "I enjoyed my nine years of feuding, fussing and fighting as the Carringtons and I was so glad to have had the chance to reunite with him a few years ago in the 'Dynasty' reunion. He will be greatly missed."
