NEW YORK, March 29 (UPI) -- The History channel says it plans to air a two-hour U.S. special called "The Real Face of Jesus?" during Holy Week, the days leading up to Easter Sunday.
The New York Post said Tuesday night's program follows artist and scientist Ray Downing -- president of Macbeth Studios in upstate New York -- as he gathers information from the Shroud of Turin, which is then processed by computer to create an image of what he and his collaborators say is the face and body of Jesus.
The Post said the completed image depicts a Middle Eastern-appearing man and bares little resemblance to the blond with Anglicized features portrayed by many European Renaissance artists.
