NEW YORK, March 18 (UPI) -- CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour has signed on to serve as host of ABC's Sunday morning program "This Week" starting in August, Variety reported Thursday.

The position became vacant last December when George Stephanopoulos left to co-anchor "Good Morning America."

Amanpour worked for CNN for two decades and was one of the cable news network's best-known correspondents.

Jake Tapper is expected to serve as temporary host of "This Week" until Amanpour takes over the post, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.
