NEW YORK, March 8 (UPI) -- Felicia Day has signed on to play a werewolf-hunting descendant of Little Red Riding Hood in the new U.S. television movie, "Red," Syfy said Monday.

The re-telling of the classic fairy tale is to air as part of the Syfy Saturday Original Movie series.

Day previously starred in the Web videos "The Guild" and "Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog." She also played Vi in the final season of Whedon's cult classic television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

"Red" is scheduled to premiere in 2011.
