LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Australian actor Alex O'Loughlin has signed on to play Detective Steve McGarrett in the upcoming remake of "Hawaii Five-0," The Hollywood Reporter said.

"Lost" co-star Daniel Dae Kim recently was cast in the role of Detective Chin Ho Kelly in the new version of CBS's "Hawaii Five-0" television series, which is being re-imagined by "Fringe" co-creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and "CSI: New York" executive producer/co-show-runner Peter Lenkov.

O'Loughlin has previously starred in the short-lived CBS series "Moonlight" and "Three Rivers."

The original "Hawaii Five-0" series starred Jack Lord and Kam Fong Chun, and ran from 1968 to 1980
