U.S. version of 'Torchwood' in the works

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Fox is working on a U.S. adaptation of the hit British science-fiction television series "Torchwood."

The original version of the show about a secret group that battles alien invaders from a home base in Cardiff, Wales, has run for two full seasons and been followed up by a miniseries. All of the episodes have subsequently run on BBC America after airing first in the United Kingdom.

The Hollywood Reporter said series creator Russell Davies is penning the screenplay for an Americanized pilot.

The original show's star John Barrowman, who plays the immortal Capt. Jack Harkness, may also star in the U.S. version if Fox orders "Torchwood" to pilot, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.
