'Idol' producer eyeing Ross for U.S. work

LONDON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- "American Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe says British TV personality Jonathan Ross should try to get a job in the United States.

Lythgoe said with Ross deciding not to renew his contact with the BBC after 13 years, the man known for such series as "They Think It's All Over" and "Friday Night With Jonathan Ross" should consider overseas options, the BBC reported Saturday.

"I think he's smart, quick witted and very, very talented. I would have thought he just wants some time out," Lythgoe said of Ross, 49.

"I would have thought that quite a few stations would want him to go and join them."

Ross, whose contract with the BBC ends in July, may not be open to relocating across the pond, Lythgoe warned.

"I don't know if he wants to go and crack new territories," Lythgoe offered.
