UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- USA Network announced Thursday it has picked up the original series "Covert Affairs," starring Piper Perabo and Peter Gallagher.

Co-starring Christopher Gorham, Kari Matchett and Anne Dudek, the show is to be shot on location in Toronto. It is to premiere with a 90-minute episode followed by 11 one-hour episodes.

The announcement regarding the series was made by Jeff Wachtel, president of original programming at USA Network, and co-head of original content at Universal Cable Productions.

"'Covert Affairs' is a perfect fit with USA's other top-rated original series," Wachtel said in a statement. "It combines the best of the network's brand attributes -- high-concept characters with an aspirational tone set in an exciting location -- this time in the intriguing and surprisingly rich world of the CIA."
