Sharon Stone lands 'Law & Order' role

NEW YORK, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Actress Sharon Stone has signed up for a recurring role on NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," the U.S. television network announced.

Stone, 51, is best known for her work in the films "Casino," "Basic Instinct" and "Total Recall." She won an Emmy Award in 2004 for her guest spot on TV's "The Practice."

NBC said the actress will guest-star as a police officer-turned prosecutor in four episodes of "SVU."

"It is obviously a thrill and a delight to have a star of Sharon's wattage and importance joining 'SVU,'" the show's creator/executive producer Dick Wolf said in a statement Tuesday.
