'House' wins People's Choice drama award

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Hugh Laurie picked up the prize for favorite TV drama actor for his work on the medical series "House" at the People's Choice Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

The show was named favorite television drama at Wednesday night's event.

"People! How did you know? This is an absolutely magnificent honor; thank you so much," the British actor said in accepting his statuette. "I have to say, if you're going to be chosen by a people, the Americans, it's a pretty decent bunch of people to be chosen by."

"Grey's Anatomy" star Katherine Heigl won the award for favorite TV drama actress and "Vampire Diaries" was declared best new TV drama.
