NEW YORK, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. comedian Kathy Griffin uttered a profanity while co-hosting a New Year's Eve special with CNN journalist Anderson Cooper, observers say.

KNBC-TV, Los Angeles, said Friday that Griffin, 49, used a four-letter profanity while discussing so-called "balloon boy" Falcon Heene during "New Years' Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin.

The profanity from Griffin during Thursday's live broadcast brought a swift retort from her CNN co-host.

"You're terrible," Cooper told Griffin.

KNBC said in addition to her expletive-laced comedy routine, Griffin is known for her work on the Bravo series "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List" and her former work as an E! network commentator for awards-show coverage.
