LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Actor Benjamin Bratt is to appear on the U.S. comedy series "Modern Family" as character Manny's much talked about, but never before seen father, ABC said.

The former "Law & Order" and "The Cleaner" star is to appear on the Jan. 6 episode of the first-year sit-com.

"Gloria is less than pleased with Jay's reaction to the arrival of Javier, Manny's infamously unreliable dad," the network said in a release Monday.

"Modern Family" stars Ed O'Neill as Jay, Sofia Vergara as Gloria and Rico Rodriguez as Manny.
