BOSTON, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- "Return to Cranford," a follow-up to the popular British miniseries "Cranford," is to air on PBS in the United States next month, its producers said.

The co-production from the BBC and WGBH is to air as part of the network's Masterpiece Classic series Jan. 10 and Jan. 17.

"Judi Dench stars in the further adventures of a quaint English village in the 1840s, picking up where the Emmy-nominated Masterpiece miniseries 'Cranford' left off," WGBH said in a news release Thursday. "Playing the kind-hearted town matriarch facing good times and bad, Dench is joined by a stellar cast, including Imelda Staunton, Julia McKenzie, Jonathan Pryce, Francesca Annis, Tom Hiddleston, and Tim Curry."

Masterpiece Classic is scheduled to start airing the original "Cranford" miniseries Dec. 20 on PBS.

The productions are based on Elizabeth Gaskell's novel "Cranford."
