'Dexter,' 'Closer' earn 3 SAG nods apiece

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- "30 Rock," "The Closer" and "Dexter" received three mentions apiece when Screen Actors Guild Award nominations were read in Los Angeles Thursday.

In the running for the prize for actor in a drama series are Simon Baker from "The Mentalist," Bryan Cranston from "Breaking Bad," Michael C. Hall from "Dexter," Jon Hamm from "Mad Men" and Hugh Laurie from "House."

The nominees for the award for actress is a drama series are Patricia Arquette for "Medium," Glenn Close for "Damages," Mariska Hargitay for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," Julianna Mragulies for "The Good Wife" and Kyra Sedgwick for "The Closer."

Shortlisted for the statuette for actor in a comedy series are Alec Baldwin from "30 Rock," Steve Carell from "The Office," Larry David from "Curb Your Enthusiasm," Tony Shalhoub from "Monk" and Charlie Sheen from "Two and a Half Men."

Competing for the title of best actress in a comedy series are Christina Applegate for "Samantha Who?" Toni Collette for "United States of Tara," Edie Falco for "Nurse Jackie," Tina Fey for "30 Rock" and Julia Louis-Dreyfus for "The New Adventures of Old Christine."

The casts of "The Closer," "Dexter," "The Good Wife," "Mad Men" and "True Blood" were nominated for the SAG Award for best ensemble in a drama series.

The stars of "30 Rock," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Glee," "Modern Family" and "The Office" are up for the best ensemble in a comedy series honor.

The 16th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards show is to be simulcast live on TNT and TBS Jan. 23.
