Gerald McRaney planning return to TV

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Gerald McRaney has signed on to star in J.J. Abrams' pilot for a possible spy thriller series called "Undercovers."

The casting news for the pilot about a pair of married secret agents was reported by The Hollywood Reporter Wednesday. McRaney is to play the spies' boss.

The 62-year-old actor is best known for his work in "Major Dad," "Designing Women" and "Simon & Simon."
