John Hughes doc to air on Encore

BURBANK, Calif., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Encore says it is planning the world television premiere of "Don't You Forget About Me," a documentary about the late U.S. filmmaker John Hughes.

The film is to debut Dec. 25 and to air again Dec. 26 during the cable network's "Big '80s Weekend."

Shot a year before Hughes's death, the documentary is about what happened to the writer and director after he worked on a string of classic 1980s movies like "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club," "Pretty in Pink" and "Home Alone."

The documentary includes appearances by Kevin Smith, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Andrew McCarthy, Alan Ruck, Kelly LeBrock, Justin Henry, Roger Ebert, Jason Reitman and Richard Roeper.

Pop star Cyndi Lauper is to present screenings of 1980s flicks throughout the weekend, including "The Breakfast Club," "Sixteen Candles," "Weird Science," "Fletch," "Back to the Future," "The Legend of Billie Jean," "The Goonies," "Weekend at Bernie's," "The Outsiders," "Real Genius," "Parenthood," "Revenge of the Nerds II" and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."
