NEW YORK, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- "Don't Stop Believin'" by the cast of the U.S. TV series "Glee" has been certified gold for digital sales in excess of 500,000 downloads, Columbia Records said.

The label said more than 2 million copies of songs that appeared on the show have been purchased online.

Seven songs from "Glee" occupy spots in the top 200 of iTunes Top Songs chart and Newsweek recently observed the Fox series' "rabid online fanbase has given the show's music a life of its own," the record label noted in a news release Thursday.

"Glee: The Music, Volume 1," which is to hit stores Tuesday, will feature 17 songs heard in Season 1 of the show, which is about a group of high-school misfits who become singing sensations.

Among the songs on the album are "Can't Fight This Feeling," "Gold Digger," "Take a Bow," "Alone,"

"Somebody to Love," "Sweet Caroline," "Dancing with Myself" and "Defying Gravity."
