NASHVILLE, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Melissa Gilbert says it has been an "amazing experience" to rejoin "Little House on the Prairie" in a stage production.
Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls in the TV version of "Prairie," is playing Caroline, the mother of her former character, in the stage musical, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported Sunday.
"It's an amazing experience," Gilbert, 45, said, "a real gift to be able to do it. I had never done a musical before last summer, when the show debuted. That aspect, being able to approach something totally new in this business, is a miracle."
The stage production of "Prairie" opened in St. Paul, Minn., Oct. 13 and the show is to open at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville this week.
Gilbert told The Tennessean she particularly enjoys the fact the stage production embraces the positive ideals behind "Prairie" by working with charitable groups like Habitat for Humanity.
"People get so complacent," she said. "We get caught up in our own lives and dramas, and forget to see the bigger picture. We rely on each other as human beings, and this show demonstrates that clearly."
