LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Beloved fictional characters Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly have married on the U.S. comedy series, "The Office," after a tumultuous four-year courtship.

Before the co-workers became a couple, they first had to untangle themselves from their respective significant others. Later, they dealt with Pam's going to school in another city and her working for a competing paper company.

Jim and Pam, played by John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer, finally married in Niagra Falls, N.Y., on Thursday night's episode.

"Four years ago, I was just a guy, who had a crush on a girl, who had a boyfriend and I had to do the hardest thing that I ever had to do, which was just to wait," Jim said at the rehearsal dinner. "For a really long time, that's all I had; just little moments with a girl, who saw me as a friend and a lot of people told me I was crazy to wait this long for a date with a girl who I worked with. But I think, even then, I knew I was waiting for my wife."

However, the next day, Jim and Pam, who is pregnant, are overwhelmed by tension created by their families and friends, and opt to elope.

After they are wed by a boat captain near the falls, they head to the church where their guests have been waiting and wondering if they've called off the ceremony.

As Pam prepares to walk down the aisle, her bridal party and guests start dancing to the song, "Forever," in a nod to the YouTube wedding video sensation, which has been viewed more than 27 million times.

The couple then marry again, with Pam pumping her flower bouquet in the air in victory.
