NEW YORK, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Cherry Jones, who last month won an Emmy for her work on TV's "24," has confirmed she has broken up with her girlfriend, Sarah Paulson.

Paulson appeared on the TV series "American Gothic," "Jack & Jill" and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." She and Jones reportedly dated for about four years.

"We're not together anymore, but we're still dearest of friends," Jones told Usmagazine.com Thursday. "It's the happiest break-up that's ever been. We grew so much together and now we can send each other off with a kiss and great love."

The 52-year-old actress also said this is the first time in 29 years that she has been single.

"I am happy as a bluebird. I wake up every morning just tweeting," she said. "I love being on my own for the first time in my adult life. I highly recommend it. I may never be in another relationship as long as I live. I love deepening my friendships, and I like being on my own."
