May 26 (UPI) -- One Direction member Niall Horan hopes the group will reunite in "the next few years."

The 23-year-old Irish singer said in the June 3 issue of Billboard that he's ready to drop his solo career once the British boy band decides to get back together.

"I told my managers from the start: When One Direction comes knocking, [expletive] what I'm doing. I don't give a [expletive] if I sold out arenas or won Grammys. I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for that," he told the magazine.

One Direction has been an indefinite hiatus since December 2015. Horan confessed he and bandmates Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson haven't "even had a conversation" about when they will reunite.

"When it will be, I don't know. I prefer not to do it after I'm 40. I'd prefer the next few years," he said.

Horan is presently focused on his solo music, which includes the songs "This Town" and "Slow Hands." The songs will appear on his forthcoming solo album, which he recently said will reflect his Irish heritage.

"I'm Irish, so when I do sing, I do sing with a bit of an Irish-y tone," he told SiriusXM Hits 1 this month. "I bring some of that into my songwriting and you'll hear flavors of that on the album."

Horan performed "Slow Hands" on Thursday's episode of The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. He has yet to announce a release date for his solo album.
