May 9 (UPI) -- The singing competition series American Idol is poised to return to television in 2018, but, when it does, it will be on a new network.

There is no word yet on who will serve as the show's judges and host.

The last incarnation -- which was taped in Los Angeles and aired 15 seasons on FOX, ending in 2016 -- starred Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, Harry Connick Jr. and Ryan Seacrest.

Seacrest just took over as co-host of Live! with Kelly in New York. The morning program is also broadcast on ABC.

"Is 'American Idol' Returning with Ryan Seacrest?" the Live! Twitter account asked as news broke of the Idol return.

"Trust me, I have just as many questions as you do :)" Seacrest tweeted in reply.

American Idol has launched the careers of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips, Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry.
