Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Louis Tomlinson is feeling "great" after reconciling with former bandmate Zayn Malik.

The 25-year-old English singer said in an interview with Sirius XM that he and Malik have mended fences since the "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" crooner left One Direction in 2015.

"It's a strange feeling, but it's nice," Tomlinson said of hearing Malik's solo music. "I think we've gotten to a point now where you can just really be happy for each other. Things have happened in the past of course ... [but] it's great."

"His first song ['Pillowtalk'] was an absolute smash, and that's a great song. So yea, it's nice," he added.

Malik quit One Direction in March 2015 after nearly five years with the British boy band. He and Tomlinson clashed on Twitter in May 2015 after Tomlinson suggested Malik's producer Naughty Boy was piggybacking on the singer's career.

"@NaughtyBoyMusic Jesus forgot you were such an in demand producer ... How does it feel to be riding on the back of someone else's career ?" Tomlinson tweeted at the time.

"@Louis_Tomlinson remember when you had a life and stopped making [expletive] comments about mine?" Malik wrote in response.

Tomlinson and the remaining members of One Direction -- Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Harry Styles -- have been on an indefinite hiatus since December 2015. The singer also discussed his mother's death in the Sirius XM interview.

"When I first found out about the news, I kind of did want to throw the towel in, but it was my mum who said to me that I've just got to keep going. She told me very sternly that she wanted me to," he said of his mom, Johanna Deakin, who died of leukemia at age 42 in December.
