NEW YORK, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Teen recording artist Jackie Evancho confirmed on NBC's Today show that she will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Donald Trump's presidential inauguration next month.

"I was asked to perform by the president-elect... the national anthem at the swearing-in ceremony, the inauguration," the 16-year-old America's Got Talent alum said on Wednesday's edition of the program.

"I was very nervous," she admitted about initially getting the invitation. "But, you know what? I am really excited. I am so honored and I can't wait to see what happens."

"Honored to have @jackieevancho performing the National Anthem at the @TrumpInaugural Ceremony. She's an inspiration for all Americans! #MAGA," Boris Epshteyn, a senior adviser for the Trump-Pence presidential transition, tweeted.

Since she came in second place on AGT when she was 10 years old, Evancho has released a string of hit albums and has the distinction of being the youngest performer to ever give a solo concert at New York's Lincoln Center. Last summer she sang "God Bless America" on the A Capital Fourth special on PBS.
