LOS ANGELES, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Meghan Trainor canceled her remaining 2016 concerts Thursday due to lingering illness.

The 22-year-old singer announced in an Instagram post that she's been placed on "a strict vocal rest" and won't perform again until 2017.

"I posted last week that I wasn't feeling great, but was powering through the best that I could. Unfortunately, I am not feeling any better and after leaving the doctor today, I have been put on a strict vocal rest for the next two weeks," Trainor wrote.

"This absolutely kills me because I was so excited to see all of you on the road. I'm going to go home and rest so I can get back to see you all as soon as I can. I love you so much and am so appreciative of of your love and support that you constantly show me. You mean everything to me. Can't wait to see you in 2017!" she added.

Trainor was to perform at the 2016 Billboard Women in Music Awards ceremony Friday, and at a number of iHeartRadio Jingle Ball events around the country, according to Billboard. The star was previously forced to cancel shows in 2015 after having a vocal hemorrhage.

Trainor last released the album Thank You in May, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and includes the singles "No," "Me Too" and "Better." Sony Pictures Animation announced this week that the singer wrote and recorded a new song for Smurfs: The Lost Village.

"I love the Smurfs and was honored when they asked me to write a song for this new movie. I was so excited -- I wrote the whole thing in one evening!" Trainor said in a statement.

"I'm a Lady" will be heard in the new animated film, which is based on The Smurfs comic series by Peyo. The movie features the voices of Demi Lovato, Mandy Patinkin and Joe Manganiello, and opens in theaters April 7, 2017.
