LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Mariah Carey and James Packer have reportedly called off their engagement.

The 46-year-old American singer and 49-year-old Australian businessman split due to tensions over the singer's forthcoming reality show, Mariah's World, and extravagant spending, according to Woman's Day.

"It's all over," a source told the Australian magazine. "James had huge reservations about Mariah's new TV show and the fact that she was willing to expose their lives to the world."

"James is very generous [financially] but Mariah takes it to the next level," another insider added. "When she refused to come to Australia for [his sister] Gretel's birthday part it created a lot of tension in the family."

Sources told TMZ that Packer hated Carey's show "from the get-go" and that it "became a major source of conflict" in the couple's relationship. The website said, however, that "the door is not completely shut" for the pair yet.

Packer was noticeably absent from the Halloween party Carey hosted over the weekend. Her ex-husband, Nick Cannon, and their twin children were among the guests, and E! News reports Carey told Cannon about the breakup.

"[They] have not discussed it at length," a source said.

Carey, who split from Cannon in 2014 after six years of marriage, got engaged to Packer in January. The singer told E! News at the time that she was feeling "fantastic" and looking forward to the wedding.

"If everything works out, it will be somewhat soon," she said. "I've done a big wedding ... We would rather make it beautiful but humble."
