LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Legendary musician Sting is set to be honored with the Merit Award at the 2016 American Music Awards. "Honored to be receiving the @AMAs Award of Merit - and excited to perform at the show LIVE November 20 on ABC!," Sting wrote on Twitter Monday alongside a colorful poster announcing his performance.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 65-year-old will be performing the first single off his new album "I Can't Stop Thinking About You," from his new album 57th & 9th along with some of his greatest hits.
The Merit Award, which is given to those "who have made truly exceptional contributions to the music industry," was last given to Annie Lennox in 2008. Other recipients include Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, Prince and Frank Sinatra.

The 2016 American Music Awards is set to take place live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Nov. 20.
Rapper Drake has broken a record for the show by scoring 13 nominations putting him ahead of all other artists. Behind the Canadian rapper is Rihanna with seven nominations followed by Adele and Justin Bieber with five.
