WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Musical couple Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton shared the stage at a White House state dinner Tuesday.

The 47-year-old singer performed a number of her hits, including "The Sweet Escape," before inviting the 40-year-old country star to join her for their duet, "Go Ahead and Break My Heart."

The event, which honored Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, marked president Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama's final state dinner in office. Stefani shook the president's hand after her closing song, according to E! News.

Vice president Joe Biden, singer Frank Ocean and Today anchor Savannah Guthrie were among the other famous faces in attendance. The Obamas and their guests enjoyed a dinner prepared by chef Mario Batali.

Stefani and her three sons, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo, had visited with the president and the prime minister earlier in the day. Renzi shared a photo of the group in the Oval Office on Facebook.

Stefani and Shelton confirmed their relationship in November after splitting from their respective spouses, Gavin Rossdale and Miranda Lambert, earlier in 2015. The couple will reunite on The Voice Season 12 in 2017.

"We can't wait to experience the unique chemistry and energy Gwen, Alicia [Keys], Blake and Adam [Levine] will bring to Season 12," NBC Entertainment alternative and reality group president Paul Telegdy said Tuesday.
