LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei is done with Twitter after facing racist bullying.

The 20-year-old star announced in a post to her 1.72 million followers Saturday that she's "taking a break" from the social media site until further notice.

"Over the past four years of being in the public eye I've learned to grow a thick skin to critics and those who may not like me," Kordei wrote. "But over the course of this last week and especially over the last 48 hours I've not just been cyber bullied, I've been racially cyber bullied with tweets and pictures so horrific and racially charged that I can't subject myself any longer to the hate."

"I want to take this moment to say love goes much further than hate in this world," she said. "I have nothing but love for everyone, even my haters and I hope I can lead by example."

Many had attacked Kordei for her perceived slight against Fifth Harmony bandmate Camila Cabello. The singer had briefly hesitated in a live Aug. 1 interview with Galore when asked to describe Cabello's best quality.

"She is... let's see. Camila. Very quirky. Yeah," she said. "Very quirky. Cute."

Kordei called the incident "completely blown out of proportion" in a post Friday after facing "unjust hate and slander" for her remarks. Cabello herself addressed the situation after Kordei quit Twitter the next day.

"I stand by the words 'love only,' meaning I won't tolerate on my timeline any kind of hate, racism, or discrimination towards anyone. Period," she wrote. "You don't have to hate on someone else to support me - I don't appreciate it and it's not what I'm about. Be kind or move on."
