NEW YORK, July 20 (UPI) -- Gwen Stefani is opening up about her much-publicized history of heartbreak.

The 46-year-old singer reflected on her divorce from Gavin Rossdale and prior split from Tony Kanal on Wednesday's episode of The Howard Stern Show.

"It's been an unbelievable journey," Stefani said of her divorce. "You can't even imagine. It did rock [my world]. My parents were totally helping me through the whole thing. I was in a panic. I was in hell."

"I think, for me, I feel like I always wondered: why did I get so unlucky in love? I have so much love in me," she added while in tears.

Stefani split from Rossdale in 2015 after 13 years of marriage after finding out he'd been having an affair with their children's nanny. She had started dating the Bush frontman following her breakup with No Doubt bandmate Tony Kunal, whom she dated from 1987 to 1993.

"That was a really huge part and long part of my life," the singer said of her relationship with Kunal. "I was in love and obsessed with Tony Kanal, and he knows that," adding that she would have married the bassist if he'd asked.

Stefani's split from Kanal inspired her to write heartbreaking hits like "Don't Speak" for No Doubt's record Tragic Kingdom. Likewise, her divorce from Rossdale inspired her latest solo album, This is What the Truth Feels Like.

"I went from literally not being able to write anything to writing a whole record," she said. "[I was so bad] that I almost [couldn't] get out of bed. I knew if I could just go to the studio, maybe I wouldn't feel like such a jerk. I just felt like such a loser."

Stefani is now dating country star Blake Shelton, who split from wife Miranda Lambert in July 2015. Lambert herself reflected on her past year of "heartbreak and healing" in an Instagram post Tuesday.
