LOS ANGELES, June 24 (UPI) -- Harry Styles appears to be going solo.

News outlets reported Thursday the 22-year-old singer signed a solo deal with Columbia Records, the same label behind his group, One Direction.

Sources told Billboard there isn't a timeline for the album and terms of the contract are unknown. Styles has yet to address the news or announce an official exit from One Direction.

One Direction last performed as a group in December and is presently on an indefinite hiatus. Zayn Malik, one of the five original members, left the band in March 2015.

Four of Styles' songs were registered with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers last year, hinting at his move toward a solo career. He split from One Direction's management team in February to sign with Jeffrey Azoff.

"Harry is done with One Direction," a source told The Sun after the switch. "His new team will be about launching him as a solo superstar by around this time next year, so the work is starting now."

Styles is also pursuing acting and was spotted with short hair on the Dunkirk set in May. The singer will play a soldier in the new Christopher Nolan movie alongside Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Cillian Murphy.
