NEW YORK, June 15 (UPI) -- Nick Jonas says he's to blame for the Jonas Brothers' much-mourned split.

The 23-year-old singer revealed on Tuesday's episode of Watch What Happens Live that he initiated the band's breakup.

Jonas and siblings Kevin and Joe Jonas performed as the Jonas Brothers for eight years before splitting in 2013.

"I was [the one to bring it up]. It was a very tough conversation and it left the family kind of shaken up for a little while," the star admitted. "We were about to start a tour, two days from starting a tour [when we talked]."

"It was very tough, but we're good now," he added of their lives since the breakup. "It's good for everybody. It's good it happened because I think we all grew from it, but it was very challenging for a little while."

The Jonas Brothers released four studio albums and were gearing up to drop their fifth when they abruptly canceled their accompanying tour. The siblings confirmed their split in October 2013 and appeared on Good Morning America days after.

"I came to the table with the guys just before we were prepping to leave for tour, and I shared my heart with them, my feelings," Nick said at the time.

"In a nutshell, I said, 'Look, I feel like we've had some complications within the group for a long time without addressing them. I think this train will fall off the tracks without addressing them,'" he revealed.

Nick has since appeared on Hawaii Five-0, Scream Queens and Kingdom, and released his third solo album, This Year Was Complicated, last week.
