Jackson Browne to donate proceeds from N.C. concerts to LGBT groups

LOS ANGELES, May 10 (UPI) -- Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne has confirmed he will perform previously postponed shows in North Carolina on May 28 and June 1.

The concerts in Asheville and Wilmington were originally scheduled for Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, but were canceled due to illness and weather, respectively.

Browne said he plans to donate the entire net proceeds of both shows to support local and national LGBT groups, including Equality NC and Human Rights Campaign.

"There are a lot of fine people in North Carolina, and some of them are transgender," Browne said in a statement Monday. "I am coming to North Carolina to play for anyone and everyone, and the proceeds from my two concerts will be directed to groups working to advance equality under the law for transgender people."

Several musical artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas, Pearl Jam and Ringo Starr have canceled shows in North Carolina to protest the state's passing of the HB2 Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act, which specifies the bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use.
