NEW YORK, July 21 (UPI) -- Miley Cyrus is to host the MTV Video Music Awards show in Los Angeles on Aug. 30.

"@MileyCyrus has a message for you all," the cable television network tweeted Monday evening.

Included in the post is a photo of someone dressed in a green alien mask and bodysuit, as well as a sign that says, "MTV won't let me perform."

A second image shows Cyrus without the mask and sticking out her tongue. She is also wearing a sign that reads, "So I'm hosting this year's VMAs."

The 22-year-old pop star and actress first attended the VMAs in 2008. She made headlines at the 2013 edition of the awards ceremony when she and Robin Thicke twerked their ways through their live performance. She also stole the show last year when she offered her award acceptance-speech time to her homeless guest Jesse Helt, who talked about the challenges homeless youth face in Los Angeles.
