PORTLAND, Ore., May 5 (UPI) -- Sam Smith has canceled several more tour dates due to a recent vocal injury.

The 22-year-old English singer was forced to cancel a number of dates on the Australian leg of his In the Lonely Hour tour after suffering a vocal cord hemorrhage last Monday, and will be unable to perform in Japan and the Philippines this week.

"I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour," he wrote at the time on Instagram. "I have been vocally exhausted for a while now ... [and] the doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed."

Smith spent the week recuperating in Sydney, but announced he will seek treatment in the U.S. on Monday, writing, "Very upset about Japan and Manilla dates. I've just left Australia and I'm on my way to the states to see a specialist to see what to do from there."

Smith came to fame after being featured on Disclosure single "Latch," and released his debut album, In the Lonely Hour, in May 2014. He kicked off his tour of the same name January 9 in Atlanta, and is scheduled to perform May 15 at the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Ala.
