NEW YORK, March 24 (UPI) -- Grammy Award-winning actress and singer Brandy Norwood is to make her Broadway debut in the stage musical Chicago, producers announced Tuesday.

Norwood will begin her eight-week limited engagement as Roxie Hart at New York's Ambassador Theatre April 28.

"Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her," a synopsis said. "Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today's tabloids."

Norwood is best known for her acting work on TV's Moesha and The Game, and for her hit songs "I Wanna Be Down" and "The Boy is Mine." She also starred in the television musical version of Cinderella alongside the late Whitney Houston.
