NEW YORK, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Taylor Swift has trademarked the lyrics "This sick beat" from her song "Shake It Off."

In addition to "This sick beat," the star also claimed "Party like it's 1989," "Cause we never go out of style," "Could show you incredible things," and "Nice to meet you. Where you been?"

The lyrics will be used on products ranging from soap and linens to t-shirts and hair ties.

It seems extreme and possibly a shade ridiculous, but trademarks are a common practice for artists who want to guarantee profit from anything is sold with their likeness or work.

Now anyone who sells anything with these phrases without approval from Swift and without paying royalties, will be selling the product illegally.

Swift recently had all of her music removed from the popular legal streaming service Spotify, saying it decreases revenue from album sales drastically.
