"On January 20th, Tuesday afternoon, Edgar Froese suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from the effects of a pulmonary embolism in Vienna. The sadness in our hearts is immensely. Edgar once said: 'There is no death, there is just a change of our cosmic address,'" said the statement.

Froese was born in 1944 in what is now the town of Sovetsk, Russia. He started as the guitarist for Tangerine Dream in the early 70s. They began as free-improvising group with inspiration from Pink Floyd. They later moved to dance music and incorporated themes from jazz, Latin music and other genres. The group began rising in popularity in both Europe and the United states, worrying the music community that electronica would take over the music scene.

Froese worked on his solo career while still performing with Tangerine Dream, which included rerecording Tangerine Dream pieces as solo works. He worked on scores for movies as well as on the music for "Grand Theft Auto V."
